This thing broke immediately out of the box. The cutters jammed and refuse to turn and to top it off the interlock tab that allows the thing to turn on detached itself from the side of the basket. Unfortunately I had bought it several months before on sale and put it aside for when I needed it so the warranty has expired and I'm out 40 bucks. This is quite possibly the worst piece of [word that amazon will bleep] that I've ever bought in my life. I will steer well clear of Royal products in the future.

Highly recommended, and looks very sleek. I only use it for personal use, so I haven't used it for high volume. My last Royal shredder was a straight-cut, and it was still running strong 10 years later. I wanted more security on the documents that I was shredding so I purchased this cross-cut shredder.
Good shredder, undone by it's "safety" feature   2008-02-23

Upgraded from a strip cut to this one and it initially worked great! Shredded everything I could throw at it, DVDs, CDs, 8 sheets at a time, credit cards, even those sticky cardboard cards you get with preapproved credit applications. Then it was time to empty the shredder and the problems started. The shredder has a "Safety" feature where it shuts off as soon as you take the top off the basket. Great feature you would think, but only if it had worked right! Right from the first time I removed the top off the basket, the shredder refuses to turn on after the top is replaced. Apparently, the top is too heavy for the basket, causing it to lose shape so the top doesn't fit snugly anymore. Hence, it simply doesn't turn on. Everytime I empty the basket, I have to bang the top onto the basket every which way for about 15 minutes and then suddenly it finds a fit it likes and turns on! Unfortunately, the first time it happened, it was too late to return the product. So, I'm stuck with this shredder now. Bottomline, while the shredder function works great, the safety feature is annoying, IMHO unnecessary and hampers the operation of the product. I'd NOT recommend this to anybody.
