Customer Reviews

Customer rating is 4 of 5  Update maps are too pricey!   2010-06-17
By E. BURKHOLDER (oregon, usa)
This unit works well, occasional bad directions(normal), But I thought the map updates were included, and they are NOT, And they are too pricey. It may be less expensive to get a newer unit.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Avoid - problems from Day 1, warr. is for Reconditioned unit...   2010-04-21
By A. Cobb
Cons: Warranty (see below), not as easy to navigate menus as Garmin

Pros: didn't work long enough to judge

Check out the warranty before you buy this unit - units defective out of the box are replaced with reconditioned units, not new ones.

I received this as a birthday gift and had problems from Day 1. Unit froze up and wouldn't turn off.

By Day 4, unit wouldn't stay on. 1st call to customer service - agent had me hold power button for 12 seconds, then turn on unit. I thought it worked, but every time I use it, it shuts off after a few minutes, and won't turn back on unless I do the 12 sec. reset - that's no good. My second call to CS has me sending it back, and I'll get back a RECONDITIONED unit after they receive this new one back at their "repair" department. That does me no good on the trip I'm taking tomorrow.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Durability:Poor   2010-03-23
By Jesus M. Huertas (USA)
I purchased this item on late 2008, by early 2009 Magellan had to replace it. By early 2010 it quit completely not before I have paid a subscription to traffic lynks and purchase a new OEM charging cable directly from Magellan. After I called Magellan to see about possible repairs, not free, I was offering to pay, I was notified that they did not do repairs but they could trade it for a new one under their "loyalty program". The price was higher than what I could get online and of course they would refurbish and sell the traded unit. I sent them the unit for recycling twice with a nice note where I enclosed documentation of the five Magellan units I have purchased telling them than my loyalty was greater than theirs. The package went to their returns department and corporate office and were returned to me twice unopened. How you like that for customer care? I downloaded the Motion X app to my iPhone 3g and I am happier than with a standard gps unit and it was only $30 with constant updates. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS UNIT!!! YOU WILL REGRET IS YEAR LATER!!!
Customer rating is 3 of 5  Great GPS, but doesn't last long   2010-01-14
By Alice Q. Schwarz (Hou)
I got this GPS as a graduation present, it started shutting down within a year. The charging port got disconnected, so it wouldn't charge, and when it did have some battery life left when it was plugged in to charge it would say 'USB connected' and would not work at all.

However, I loved it while it lasted and I will buy another Magellan in the future. Magellan is superior to TomTom as far as ease-of-use and finding places. I could type in a place's name and it could find it quickly, or I could look under categories. I like how it could list the types of restaurants, including more exotic foreign cuisines. I was never frustrated with Magellan, it doesn't have hidden buttons, there is a menu button to go back to the main menu. You can adjust the volume from the map screen and It is easy to glance at and understand while driving.
Customer rating is 3 of 5  major issues with entering addresses   2009-12-27
By Jen F. (Atlanta, GA)
I got this model for some it's features like the traffic and AAA tourbook information. While it's not a bad model overall, I had one major difficulty. This model wants you to enter the street name before the street number. Often, I would enter "Main Street" and would then get two or more options that I would then have to choose from such as "Main Street NE" and "Main Street SE." This would happen when the address I was trying to get to did not list a NE or SE so I didn't know which one to choose. I could go onto Google Maps or Mapquest and type in "100 Main Street" and get directions with no problem, but the GPS would not let me simply enter "100 Main Street." I live in Atlanta and the roads here are not based on a grid system as in some cities where "100 Main Street NE" and "100 Main Stree NW" would be two different locations. I have since switched to using a Garmin model and haven't had this problem since you can enter a street number before the street name.

I didn't think the traffic feature was all that great. Sometimes it worked fine and other times I'd be sitting in a traffic jam and it said there were no traffic incidents in the area. The POI feature was also lacking. I could ask it to find, say, the nearest Target to me. I could be sitting in front of a Target and it would direct me to one 5 miles away. I have yet to see how the Garmin's traffic and POI features are so I can't say whether this problem is exclusive to Magellan.
