I had a very nice experience with a Mio GPS that I'd purchased about 5 years ago for about $150.

I found one at Radio Shack this last X-mas for about the same and bought 2 figuring it would be much improved - boy was I wrong!

1st of all - no spoken street names - alright I can live with that (My old Mio did that)
2nd - when you turn on your street it takes a good 10 seconds to update to the next turn - making you miss your turn usually -
and before the address comes up when you arrive at your destination street, it takes 20 seconds to display the address, so keep that handy (My old Mio updated promptly)
3rd - on a 1/2 mile trip, many times it will take you on a 20 mile detour. (My old Mio never did that)
If your not familiar with where you are, you'd be better off asking directions from a homeless woman.
Don't buy Mio unless you are stupid.

I purchased my Mio from Staples at the recommendation of the cashier (she owned one and loved it) about 1-1/2 years ago. I used it at first quite a bit; testing it out here and there, and it worked pretty well. I ended up sticking it under my driver's seat and leaving it there 4 the better part of a year because: 1) the charger wouldn't charge; 2) releasing it from the clip/suction holder was a PITA; and 3) the charger wouldn't charge. With no power, it's useless. I tried to get a replacement charger unit from Mio, 2 no avail. Their customer service is ridiculous and totally unacceptable. I have yet 2 d/l any updates, and may do that this evening just 2 see if anything's out there.

So now I'm checking out 'familiar' GPS units (so far I'm looking at a Garmin Nuvi) that at least more convenient customer service.

After purchase I signed up for assistance as I couldn't find some functions and help was good. About a year and a half after use and I liked it. The rubber button on the side became hard and broke away from the push turn on off control. I still love the unit and called to see if they would send me a new rubber that I could install. customer service informed me no I could not obtain a part and would have to send the unit in for repair and need to pay for the repair. How much was the question? $85.00 and I could buy a new one for little over hundred. I give them 1 star for product and -4 for service. I would buy again if the service was their. Additional Email resulted in no response. They don't have a phone so only way of contact was e mail or was I able to reach them with chat I can't remember. Good product awe full service.

I bought it 1 year ago. After got it, I hacked it and install other GPS softwares.(The factory gps software is good but a little out of date.) Total I installed IGO, Garmin and tomtom. I only keep igo and garmin. I use igo almost everyday. Like this very much.
